CardioNet

CardioNet® MCOT (Mobile Cardiac Outpatient Telemetry)

Advanced real-time heart monitor features physician notification. All too often, our patients come to our office seeking help with cardiovascular issues but can’t adequately explain what they are feeling. Dr. Bereliani will ask you when specifically the problem occurs, which activities trigger it, and how your body responds. You may feel like you have a “fast” heartbeat, but this information is too vague for a doctor to act upon. With CardioNet, we can not only precisely define arrhythmias (heart rhythm disturbances) but document them and notify Dr. Bereliani of abnormal events as well.

What is an MCOT monitor and why do we use it?

The CardioNet MCOT monitor combines the best attributes of an event recorder and a Holter monitor with WiFi and “push messaging” technology as an added bonus. CardioNet’s revolutionary MCOT system records accurate, in-depth data about your cardiac function over an extended period of time; it can store up to 96 hours of EKG information, taking continuous measurements of heart rate and rhythm. This data is routinely sent to a remote monitoring center, and if necessary, directly to Dr. Bereliani. The monitor automatically detects arrhythmias, documenting time and severity of any event, even ones so minor that you might have slept through or never noticed.

What is the process like with a CardioNet MCT monitor?

If Dr. Bereliani determines you should have a CardioNet MCOT monitor, our technician will fit you with a device right here in our Beverly Hills office. CardioNet uses three electrodes – adhesive circles – placed at specific points on your chest to measure your EKG. This process is easier if chest hair is shaved. Leads that run from the chest monitoring device (worn around your neck) snap on to the electrodes on your chest. The technician then programs the monitor. There is also a separate WiFi device, which resembles a mobile phone automatically sends your data to a remote monitoring center and even notifies Dr. Bereliani in case of a serious event.

We will set a customized monitoring period for you. After sufficient data has been compiled, you’ll return for a follow-up appointment, where our technician will remove the electrodes and turn the unit off properly. Do not attempt to do this yourself.

What is the significance of the results obtained from the MCT monitor?

In a word, diagnosis. Recent studies have shown CardioNet MCOT overwhelmingly superior to an auto-triggered external loop event recorder for diagnosing arrhythmias by a margin of 88% to 46%. By identifying the type of events and their frequency, we can arrive at an accurate diagnosis. In many cases, our patients don’t even realize how many episodes they may have had, because they felt completely normal during the episodes, or were asleep. Armed with the information provided by the CardioNet MCOT monitor, Dr. Bereliani is often able to take proactive measures to prevent further problems. This is another reason why advanced diagnostic techniques are so important to Dr. Bereliani’s preventive cardiology practice.
